About Alia O
Alia O is a Ukrainian artist based in France. Her background is in international affairs and war reporting journalism, focusing on the toll the war has on civilians.
Cityscapes, nature and the relations between two in the context of the Anthropocene realities are in the centre of her artwork.
Alia has exhibited her journalistic work across Europe. Her artwork was presented as a part of a collective exhibition curated by Izolyatsia. The Foundation has picked Alia O for an art residence 'Grounding' in Soledar, eastern Ukraine, in 2021.
The views of the towns and the landscapes of the Ukrainian east are very much present in Alia's work today as a form of a tribute to many lives turned upside down by the Russian war against Ukraine. Alia recreates the memories of the future that never happened and reflects with hope on what lies ahead.
